Kizuna - 2022

The term "kizuna" 絆 , dating back to 938 CE in the Wamyō Ruijushō dictionary, originally referred to physical bonds or fetters,
with the suffix "-zuna" derived from 綱 (tsuna), meaning rope.

In the 12th century's "Heike Honogatari," the word gained positivity, representing affectionate parent-child relationships.
Gradually, "kizuna" expanded its meaning to encompass mutual support and trust among people regardless of their origins.

Following the 2011 earthquake and Fukushima disaster, "kizuna" was named 'kanji of the year,' highlighting unity and global response to the crisis.
